Male vs. Female Ragdoll

Due to their friendly, loyal and playful personalities, Ragdolls are becoming an ever increasingly popular household pet for families or people seeking a loving companion.
There are a few key differences between the Male Ragdolls and Females Ragdolls which are particular to the breed which potential owners should consider before adopting them as a pet to ensure they are compatible with the environment you are going to let them live and wander around within.

Male Ragdolls

Male Ragdolls are especially prone to outgoing behaviour and may be more demanding than their female counterparts.

They are more likely to become close with one person instead than show their affections to many people like some family cats. In addition to a more towering personality, Male Ragdolls tend to grow to be physically more significant than the females and therefore will require a more substantial amount of space mainly as Ragdoll Cats are usually kept as house cats.
Ragdolls do not tend to reach their full size until they are three to five years old. Using a growth chart Ragdolls typically weigh 9 – 18 pounds with most Males tending to be at the more massive end of the scales (around 13 – 18 pounds)!

The Males are also more to likely spray then females even when neutered at the appropriate age but no more than any other breed in the cat world. However, it’s essential to get Male Ragdolls into good habits at an early age as they become more stubborn when teaching them right from wrong as they progress into an adult Ragdoll.

Some famous names for male Ragdolls include Oliver, Leo, Oscar and Smokey. With our two very own Male Ragdolls being called Freddy and Felix who are mischievous and love running around the house together having fun!

Don’t be deterred by getting a Female Ragdoll though! They offer other traits and characteristics that also make them a great, loving household pet as you can see below.

Female Ragdolls

Female Ragdolls tend to have a slightly more relaxed approach to playtime in comparison to the Males in the Ragdoll family. They can be less demanding in this aspect and enjoy play more on their terms.

Some people believe that they enjoy playing less than Male’s because they are more geared and attuned to the instincts that are wired into every Ragdoll’s DNA. They like to conserve more energy for the hunt and are often more prone to be active during the moonlight hours in the dead of night.

Despite being less active in the home, Female Ragdolls are more likely to be a family cat then the Male Ragdolls as they find it easier to bond with more than one person. As mentioned above, Female Ragdolls tend to be a bit smaller by the time that they reach their full adult size (around 8 – 12 pounds).

They are more agile than their male counterparts and will often enjoy finding the way up to hard to reach areas in the kitchen or explore in cupboards and under the bed for lovely cosy places to sleep.
